everytime she brakes, do you walk up to them and politely tell them they might want to have their brakes checked? Even if said person is a stranger, who is also shopping at a baby store and you harbour the fear that she might think you're a creep or worse? Just asking.

But what if your brake pads are high performance ones, that squeak when cold?

Mine have started to squeak recently, but just barely, and only sometimes. I think its the weather like you said.

My damn Forester's brakes have squealed since day one in '04. No matter what, multiple sets of new pads and rotors have not cured the squealing.

Suggestions appreciated.

Did you use the Disc Brake Quiet on the backs of the pads?

I notice this very frequency on relatively old 'Murican SUVs like this:

Kinja'd!!!

It is also common on school buses and small cargo trucks.

Since I'm still really young and hear many of the high-pitched noises, it is torture when this happens. Which is quite often.

Funny story: this summer I had my Pagid track pads on, which squeal like hell. I pull up next to some old guy in a truck who puts down his window and asks if my car is broken, then says he thought it was a siren coming up behind him. The next day I was driving home from work and stopped next to a construction project and one of the guys working says, loudly, "man that's pathetic!" Moral of the story: race compound makes your car sound like a garbage truck. Most people will think you are neglecting basic maintenance.

Like Indian said... my pads are a day old and they screech. And stop brilliantly.

the brake squeal was killing me on my beast so last week i finally changed the front pads (even though there was plenty of pad left) and had the rotors turned.
...then I realized the squealing was STILL THERE and actually coming from the REAR brakes. D'OH.

the rear brakes had plenty of pad left so i cleaned the rotors, greased where applicable, and used this directly on the rotors:

Kinja'd!!!

(you just spray it directly onto clean rotors)

even though it didn't eliminate the squeal completely, it minimized it significantly to a level i can tolerate. for now...

Mine do squeal quite a bit, and they always have. I like it =)

No last time I changed them I put some sort of grease like lube on the back of the pads that was supposed to prevent squealing. It didn't work. I've got some Polk components I'm putting in the doors tomorrow, if it doesn't take me all day I'll take the pads off and try some of that.

Thanks for the tip.

Perhaps race pads? Mine scream like a banshee.

Hopefully it will cure the issue for you.

I was always told to never use any grease or lube around brake pads because it could melt and get onto and into the pads ruining them and preventing them from stopping very well.

Amen. Mintex pads squeak too but after they have been properly bedded they are not too terrible.
